2018 Girls Program at New Light Family Life Center

The Jackson County chapter of the National Congress of Black Women encouraged girls from ages 10 to 15 to make proud choices with their 2018 Girls Choice Program.

This seminar allowed girls to learn about asset building, economic empowerment, and health education. The girls had the opportunity to hear from ministers, counselors, and published authors who spoke to the girls about trials and tribulations they endured when they were in their shoes.

The organizers hope the young ladies got something out of the program and can pass the knowledge along to other girls on the Gulf Coast.  Guest Speaker Tiffany R. Wilkerson-Franklin said, “Anything that we are doing in the community to help build capital and human capital and that is investing in these young women. They are in fact our future.”

Girls Choice Program Chairwoman Cheloyn Keeton Todd said, “We are trying to actually give them the tools and life skills they can use so they can start building a foundation to make them become better young women.”

The Jackson County Chapter of NCBW hopes to do a similar program to teach young men about making good life choices for their future.
