Like Father, Like Son: SSC alum Luke Ladner wins National Championship with Loyola

Here’s a cool one for the WXXV Play of the Day, Loyola New Orleans winning the NAIA National Championship on Tuesday.

One of the players on that team is St. Stanislaus alum Luke Ladner, son of Southern Miss Head Men’s Basketball Coach Jay Ladner.

Being a national champ certainly runs in the family with dad having been a part of USM’s 1987 NIT championship team.

In 2014, Coach Ladner led Jones College to its first-ever national title and back in 2011 even led St. Stanislaus to the 4A state crown.

Luke tells News 25 “It’s not everyday you win a championship, especially a national championship. It means so much and it’s something I’ll remember for the rest of my life.”

He’s a junior guard for the Wolf Pack who finishes the year with an overall mark of 37-1.
