Governor Plans to Sign Bill to Remove Inspection Stickers

Mississippians will soon be done with inspection stickers. A bill removing inspection stickers as a requirement passed the House Thursday and is headed to the Governor’s desk.

Governor Phil Bryant’s Communications Director says he plans to sign the bill and it will become law July 1st. The bill was part of Lt. Governor Tate Reeve’s legislative agenda. Currently, state troopers inspect the stickers, but Reeves says he would rather see these troopers on the road protecting the public. Not everyone agrees the bill is a good idea.

Joey Donald of Dunaway Glass says, “Well the local businesses will suffer from lack of work, which should be I would think, lack of sales tax revenue. It seems like there will be more cars on the road that may become unsafe.”

Donald says his business as well as mechanics and other car repair shops may see a dip in business when the bill passes. He believes the inspection sticker is necessary to ensure drivers are keeping their cars up to a safe standard.
