Barricades for Spring Break go up in Gulfport

As the Coast gets ready for the crowds that Black Spring Break is expected to bring in, Gulfport police are mapping out their traffic plan for the big weekend.

The Gulfport Police Department began putting out barricades along Highway 90 today. The plan is to drop Highway 90 to two lanes from Cowan Road to Debuys Road, keeping one lane open to emergency vehicles only. If traffic gets too heavy, police plan to direct eastbound drivers to I-110 and drivers going west to Cowan Road.

Gulfport PD Public Information Officer Sgt. Clayton Fulks said, “Anybody that can avoid the area that is not participating in the event should do so. Anyone that is on the road do not stop or slow down traffic, just go with the flow of traffic and be patient”

Anyone caught driving in the emergency vehicle lane will be ticketed or towed. Gulfport police tell News 25 they will be posting 30 minute updates regarding traffic flow and intersection closings to Twitter and Facebook.
