Golden Eagles with eighth straight Conference USA series over WKU

Despite being just a half game back of first place in the Conference USA standings, the Southern Miss baseball team hasn’t sweep a league series all season, but the Golden Eagles also haven’t lost one dating back to last April.

On Sunday, they ripped off a seven-inning 14-1 victory in a rubber match versus Western Kentucky extending USM’s streak to eight consecutive series wins in CUSA.

The Black and Gold also improve to 10-1 in games in which they score double digits this season which means they’re just 12-8 in the rest of them.

That’s where Head Coach Scott Berry acknowledges a need for more consistent play. “We talked last night about the body of work that we’ve put together in the last eight games, and it was just good enough for a 4-4 record. So I felt like the things that we identified that we haven’t been doing well or that we need to correct and do well, obviously, we did them. What I felt like was really a must-win, for us as a club, boy, you couldn’t ask for anything better.”

The Golden Eagles get back on the diamond tomorrow night with a 6 p.m. matchup against Ole Miss at Trustmark Park in Pearl.
