Great Biloxi School Mayor’s Cup

The Great Biloxi Schooner Mayor’s Cup is set to compete in one month from the Schooner Pier on Point Cadet Plaza in Biloxi.

The Maritime and Seafood Industry Museum along with the Biloxi Bay Area Chamber of Commerce will host this free community-wide event. It’s all to provide a family-oriented tourist attraction where locals and visitors can easily enjoy the experience of sailing along these historic vessels.

The best part is that Biloxi Mayor ‘FoFo’ Gilich and D’Iberville Mayor Rusty Quave will go head to head in this sailing regatta competition. “This is a challenge that’s been resurrected. You had actually sailed in the 90s and had some great experiences. This will be my first as mayor, but I remember it well and again, this is the mayor’s challenge and we got the two best mayors around so we’re going to be sailing hard,” said Mayor Gilich.

Mayor Quave said, “I’m going to beat him pretty bad so I’d like to invite all the citizens of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, especially the citizens of D’Iberville who’s been called North Biloxi all our lives. We’re going to change that. After the race we’re going to be called D’Iberville and they’re going to be called South D’Iberville.”

Mayor Gilich will be captain of the Mike Sekul and Mayor Quave will be captain of the Glen L. Swetman, both of which names make up part of the Gulf Coast Maritime history.
