Gulfport police investigating vandalism at St. James Cemetery

Vandals have struck St. James Cemetery, damaging or outright removing holy symbols.

Father Ryan McCoy is letting the parish and community know that a fiberglass statue, valued around $800, was cut off at its base and removed from the cemetery several weeks ago.

Gulfport police are keeping a careful eye on the cemetery as they investigate these incidents. “We had the crucifix near the road. Someone took off the body of Jesus from the crucifix and it was made of brass. Then we had a statue of the Mother Mary and someone took it and smashed it. We had a couple of angels someone took off and smashed also.”
