Biloxi Joins In Bloody Sunday Remembrance March in Selma

Sunday, Thousands marched from Selma to Montgomery in honor of the 50th anniversary of Bloody Sunday.

The Martin Luther King Coast-wide Celebration Community out of Biloxi was a part of the thousands who marched. Forty five members took a bus to Selma Sunday to join in remembrance of those who sacrificed their lives 50 years ago. Gordon Jackson was part of the group and says that Sunday is a day he will never forget.

Jackson says, “Just to see a people for several blocks down and it was really incredible how dedicated the citizens were that they wanted to reenact and help make history, repeat history, but also hopefully make history at the same time.”

Those who marched could be heard chanting the words ‘we shall overcome.’ They also included modern chants of ‘don’t shoot’ and ‘I can’t breathe’ in honor of Michael Brown and Eric Garner.
