Previewing Southern Miss vs. Ole Miss: Golden Eagles winners in the 10 of the last 12 meetings
Dating back to 2011, Southern Miss and Ole Miss have taken the diamond together 12 times. Six of those games have been played at Trustmark Park, the only place the Rebels have even stood a chance during that stretch.
Tomorrow, the two in-state rivals will make a return trip to Pearl where the Rebs got the last laugh with a 6-2 win in 2016. Since 2011, the Golden Eagles have been doing most of the laughing, having won four of the last six games in the Metro and 10 out of the last 12 including Hattiesburg and Oxford.
Not to mention, USM has won 15 out of the last 16 games overall, is now ranked 17th in the latest Division I baseball poll and is tied for the second most wins in the entire country with 24.
Meanwhile, Ole Miss has lost five out of its last six and just got swept by Mississippi State over the weekend.
Tomorrow’s game gets going at 6:30 p.m. from Trustmark Park.
A big part of USM’s success has been Matt Wallner. He’s the first Southern Miss freshman to win Hitter of the Week honors in seven years.
Gulfport alum Daniel Keating also had a big day, hitting two home runs in Yesterday’s 13-1 win at Western Kentucky.
Another former Admiral, Jonathan Holder, pitched a scoreless inning for the Yankees yesterday in an opening day loss to the Rays.
Brent Rooker has been doing work for the Mississippi State Bulldogs, earning Player of the Week honors for the second time this year.
