Ben Howland out at Mississippi State as men’s head basketball coach

When Ben Howland was the UCLA head men’s basketball coach from 2003 to 2013, he led the Bruins to the Final Four three times, but unable to capture that same magic as the head man at Mississippi State. He’s now being shown the door.

Howland let go of his duties today, ending a seven-year run in Starkville without an NCAA Tournament victory.

Overall, he posted a winning mark of 134-98, but just 59-67 in SEC play.

The 64-year-old Howland led the Bulldogs to the Big Dance in 2019, only to be upset by 12-seed Liberty.

MSU never finished higher than fourth in league play and ranked 258 in adjusted tempo this season.
