Empty apartment destroyed after fire in Gulfport
A building is completely destroyed after a fire broke out in Gulfport on Sunday. Gulfport firefighters rushed to a burning apartment on 43rd Avenue in the afternoon.
Firefighters battled flames for about 45 minutes before the fire was extinguished. The building was an empty apartment. No one was living there at the time of the fire.
The man living in the house behind the apartment tells News 25 he was asleep when the fire started. Gulfport resident Joe Edwards said, “Basically I know I was napping and I had a few friends that came and let me know that the house was on fire in the back and I’m not sure which kids it was who came from the back, but it was coming down anyway. It’s basically burned to the ground, but obviously they’ll find out who did it.”
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
