Campaign finance reform passes legislature

A campaign finance reform bill passes the Mississippi legislature and sits on Governor Phil Bryant’s desk for signature.
Senate Bill 2689 brings more transparency to political expenses and places restrictions on spending to campaign related needs. The bill includes a prohibition on personal expenses, payments to relatives, and loans to candidates. The bill also states that once a campaign account has been closed, the candidate must return the funds to donors, donate the funds, or give the money to the state.
The Ethics Commission will oversee enforcement of the law.
