No state lottery for Mississippi
Today might be St. Patrick’s Day, but there’s no luck of the Irish for Mississippians hoping to try their luck in a state lottery.
The Mississippi House struck down the last amendment that offered to create a state lottery. The amendment was being considered in a gaming commission appropriation bill.
This was one of several attempts by lawmakers to get a state lottery placed into an existing bill.
Governor Phil Bryant has said he was open to the possibility of a lottery, but House Speaker Philip Gunn was opposed to it.
