National Nutrition celebrating 50 years at Ocean Springs Senior Center
Community Action of South Mississippi partnered with Singing River Health System to celebrate 50 years of National Nutrition by educating seniors at Ocean Springs Senior Center.
Seniors enjoyed a variety of activities including healthy snacks, games, and a speaker that focused entirely on healthy diets.
Senior National Nutrition Program is focused on promoting healthy eating, decreasing social isolation, and improving health. SMPDD Aging Department Head Thania Coyne said, “What we want to do is we want to bring a fun factor. We want them to understand, not only can they get a nutritious meal here at the centers, but they can carry that on into their everyday lives by doing simple things of providing plates to show them the portions of foods they should be eating, the different variety of foods that are necessary in the food groups, in their diets based upon their needs.”
The nutrition program is built to bring forth good nutrition and education to seniors.
