Woods Fires Break Out, One House Destroyed

One of the multiple woods fires that had Harrison County Fire Fighters busy completely destroyed a home.
Four woods fires throughout Harrison County kept fire fighters busy since 3 p.m. today. Thankfully, no one was living in a home that burned down when flames went up in a patch of woods in Pass Christian. Harrison county fire fighters put out woods fires in Lizana and north and west Harrison County.
Harrison County Fire Chief Pat Sullivan tells News 25 the house that burned down in the woods off of Vidalia Road was the only structure endangered during the fires. “Unfortunately in this case, the house was built on a very nice piece of property back in the woods, but we couldn’t get the trucks to it because of one reason or another, there wasn’t a road to get us back there. So, we were able to get the dozers in there and confine the fire to that structure. There were some other buildings on the property but we were able to keep them off of those buildings.”
Sullivan says it’s not uncommon to have multiple woods fires happening at the same time during this time of year.
