Remembering Community Leader Carmelita J. Scott
Community leader Carmelita J. Scott passed suddenly on Thursday and many Coast leaders are expressing their love and condolences.
Carmelita Scott served on the Biloxi Chamber of Commerce Board for seven years and dedicated a lot of her time volunteering at many community events along the Coast.
Scott served on the Coast Chamber Board for two years. She was also chair of the chamber’s diversity council while leading the way, advocating for minority small businesses along the Coast.
News 25 spoke with Mississippi Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce CEO Adele Lyons on what she will miss the most about Scott. “The hardest thing is just going to be her cheerfulness. There wasn’t a meeting, an event that she wasn’t at that wasn’t just full of energy and excitement. Never saw her in a bad mood. If she was, she certainly covered it well but just really her thoughtfulness and her passion for helping others and helping businesses. So, they could grow and create their own wealth and have their businesses really prosper in the community. I think it was something really the community as a whole and the chamber are going to miss about her.”
In 2020, Scott was a ‘Top 10 under 40’ One Coast Awards recipient.
