Mississippi Region VI Science and Engineering Fair

One hypothesis that proved correct for anyone who took a visit to the regional science fair in Biloxi this morning was that the students in South Mississippi are pretty sharp.
Seven hundred students and their science projects filled the Coast Coliseum Convention Center, putting observations to the test, collecting data, and finding solutions for the Mississippi Region VI Science and Engineering Fair.
Here are some of the things students tell News 25 they learned from their projects. BVM Elementary student Taryn Miller said, “I learned that colored candles burn faster because they have steric acid in them which makes the wax react to the acid which makes it burn faster.”
Magnolia Middle School student Makayah Buckley said, “My project is about earth worms and plant growth. It is to test if you put earth worms in the soil of a plant the plant will grow faster. I learned that my hypothesis was correct.”
Home school student Lee Cane said, “I learned that some chemicals will help yeast and some will harm yeast, like paint helped the yeast and detergent harmed the yeast. The experiment was really fun.”
Multiple winners were chosen and won awards from different science foundations and associations.
