Pass Parade set to roll Sunday

The City of Pass Christian is putting the final touches on the annual St. Paul’s Carnival Association Parade, which is set to roll Sunday.
This year’s parade will start at 11:30 a.m., a half hour earlier than in the past. An additional 300 barricades will be deployed along the parade route. Attendees should also note that no parking will be permitted anywhere along the parade route.
After last year’s shooting, which took place during the parade, the city’s police department will up their manpower to ensure that safety is the number one priority for this year’s event. Pass Christian Deputy Chief Michelle Carbine said, “We’ve got more police officers. We’ve got more barricades in the areas that we didn’t have them in last year. The officer presence is more. We’ll have more officers in particular areas posted up where last year we had two or three. This year we might have five or six, a little bit more, and then some street closings.”
Two people were killed and four were injured in the shooting at last year’s parade near the intersection of Davis Avenue and Ladnier Street.
