Repaving Long Beach roads
Sixty two roads in Long Beach are undergoing a huge makeover.
According to Long Beach city officials, county crews are working to repave dozens of roads such as Alverado Drive and Calnito Street. Some residents say they haven’t seen these roads worked on in over three decades.
Aldermen say this nearly 11 mile project is funded through private donations that Mayor Billy Skellie worked to receive after Hurricane Katrina. The city alderman voted unanimously to use the funds toward the project.
Long Beach resident Jenny McCaleb said, “I don’t recall them being paved in a long time, but we’re glad to have them done.”
Long Beach resident Paul Blanchard said, “I walk about 30 minutes a day since about two years ago so it’s better on my shoes and it’s definitely more comfortable to have a straight path to walk on and I know it’s been a long time coming because we’ve complained about the bumpy roads for a while. We’re very excited.”
Expected completion date could be mid to late summer.
