Police to have heavy presence during Mardi Gras
With all the Mardi Gras balls and parades going on, it’s a great time to be on the Coast. Police want to make sure the streets stay safe during all the fun.
Law enforcement is watching for anyone being a danger to the public and cracking down on drunk drivers. The Biloxi Police Department has put up signs along Highway 90 to remind drivers to make smart choices when coming home from Mardi Gras events.
Major Jim Adamo tells News 25 police are expecting large crowds and will have a very heavy presence. “If you’re getting too drunk you’re still subject to public intoxication laws and at the same time you don’t want to cause disturbances. One of the biggest issues we have is sometimes people get drunk and they start throwing things back at the floats which is a big mistake. That is an arrestable offense. We don’t want anybody getting hurt on or off the floats.”
Police tell News 25 they want everyone to enjoy their Mardi Gras events, but they just want to remind everyone to make safety a top priority.
