Emmett Till’s Family Seeking Charges
A book published two weeks ago claims to prove what the family of Emmett till has believed for more than 60 years the white woman who accused him of making sexual advances to her lied.
That allegation led to the murder of the 14 year old till in a 19-55 beating that helped spark the civil rights movement.
The book’s author wrote about a conversation with Carolyn Bryant Donham, where she admitted till never touched or used suggestive language with her.
Now till’s cousin wants to know why it took almost a decade to publish the confession.
“I want to know why did he wait so long. Why did he wait ten years to put this information out? Did he just want to sell books? I want to know why she waited so long to confess. So I just think that Mississippi has a history of these types of things and I would be surprised if she is charged.”
– Dr. Jay Carthan Emmett Till’s Cousin
Carthan also asked white people to stand with her and demand that charges are filed against Bryant Donham who is now 82-years old.
Her husband and his half-brother, both now deceased, were acquitted in till’s death.
They later admitted killing till in an interview with look magazine.
