Shuckers Manager Returned to MGM Park Saturday Morning
It’s been a while for Mike Guerrero. On Saturday morning, the Biloxi Shuckers manager returned to MGM Park for the first time since September on his way through to spring training.
For the last five months, he’s been split between his home in Florida and coaching winter ball in the Dominican Republic. Guerrero’s return to Biloxi was really nothing more than a pit stop before flying out to Arizona Saturday afternoon to start getting ready for some Cactus League action.
That means baseball season is right around the corner and so are those ‘first day of little league jitters’ for the second-year manager. “If you haven’t felt the butterflies at the start of a season, this is where it starts. You’re excited to go to spring training, to start looking at the players that you might have or you might not have once everything gets settled upstairs and then they start everything straight down to your place. So, I think it’s just an excitement to every season. I’ve been doing this a long time, but I still get my butterflies to get going,” said Guerrero.
In his first season with the Shuckers, Guerrero led the Milwaukee Brewers Double-A affiliate to an overall record of 72-67.
