Dedeaux Road Widening: Phase I

After dealing with several delays, the City of Gulfport is finally ready to begin the process of widening Dedeaux Road.
After initially awarding a contract for the widening, the Mississippi Department of Transportation requested that the city re-bid the project. The group that was awarded the contract previously was once again the winning bidder. However, the delay has pushed the projected contract award date back approximately two months to June.
Councilman R. Lee Flowers tells News 25 that despite dealing with the unexpected delays, the project will be beneficial for the City of Gulfport. “Dedeaux Road has been planned to be widened for decades now. There’s been monies in the past that have been moved to other areas in the city, but this time we’ve got some monies that are dedicated for it. We’ve got the project rolling along such that we’ve brought the property for phase one. We’ve got about a six to seven million dollar project that we’re going to do from Three Rivers Road on down to Dede Drive.”
According to Flowers, the estimated cost to complete the widening project is expected to cost about $21 million.
