Howell/Gillom Trophy finalists
Each year the Howell and Gillom trophies are given to the best men’s and women’s college basketball players respectively in the Magnolia State.
This year, the Mississippi State women’s basketball team is so good it’s the only one represented amongst the finalists. Today’s final panel for the Gillom Trophy is a clean sweep for the Lady Bulldogs who just capped off their first perfect regular season in school history over the weekend with a record of 30-0.
Headlining the group is Victoria Vivians, looking to win the award for the fourth time, alongside teammates Teaira McCowan and Blair Schaefer.
Vivians is already the only player to take home the honor three times and statistically she’s in the midst of the best season of her illustrious career.
As for the Howell Trophy, Mississippi State dominated the field as well with brothers Quinndary and Nick Weatherspoon representing the Bulldogs to go along with Southern Miss standout guard Cortez Edwards. No players up for Ole Miss which means a Rebel won’t win the honor for the first time since 2012.
The winners of both awards will be announced next Monday.
