Potential flooding on the way

After heavy showers and thunderstorms this weekend, the National Weather Service issued a flood warning for the Biloxi River.
It’s that time of year where heavy showers and thunderstorms return to South Mississippi. With that comes the risk for flooding. Those who live along the Biloxi River know the dangers it can pose. Resident Dylan Moore lives near the river and tells News 25 in the past he’s rescued multiple people. “You’ve got to make sure to keep an eye on everybody and make sure to look out for everybody while you’re out here because sometimes the current is too strong and you’re gonna get swept.”
The Biloxi River runs through Gulfport and floods multiple times a year although usually causing only minor flooding. The river’s flood stage is 12 feet and is forecasted to crest around 13 feet Monday night. That does mean only minor flooding for the area. That will be enough to cause minor issues on area roadways including River Road in Gulfport. It’s not expected to last long as it is forecasted to go back down below flood stage Tuesday morning.
With showers and thunderstorms in the forecast for much of this week, it’s something residents are going to have to watch very closely.
