Desegregation Efforts on Hold in Cleveland School District

A stay from a federal appeals court has put desegregation efforts for the Cleveland School District on hold.
In May, the district was ordered to merge its two high schools and two middle schools before the start of the 2017-2018 school year. In July, the school board voted to appeal, requesting judges orders be suspended while justices take up the case.
The stay issued by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans prohibits the district from moving forward in implementing campus consolidations until the court gives the go-ahead.
Oral arguments in the case have been postponed until April.
