Officer shot, killed during standoff in Mobile, AL
A Mobile police officer is dead after a shootout with a murder suspect in Alabama.
Officer Justin Billa was shot Tuesday night as he approached the home of a man who was suspected of killing his ex-wife. The suspect then barricaded himself in his home.
After an hours long standoff with police, the suspect, Robert Hollie, was found dead in his home early this morning. Police are not sure if the suspect was killed by fire from police or if he shot himself.
Mobile Police Chief Lawrence Battiste describes the scene during a news conference this morning. “As we respond to that complaint, we found a black female, later identified as a Ms. Poellnitz. We quickly developed a person of interest and that subject goes by the name of Mr. Hollie. As officers went to Mr. Hollie’s residence to set a perimeter and wait for other officers to arrive to talk to him, he fired shots at the officers.”
Officer Billa leaves behind a wife and a one-year-old child.
