Coca Cola Surprises Gulfport High Senior with Scholarship

Friday, Coca Cola surprised one senior at Gulfport High School, naming her a semi-finalist for a national scholarship.

Gulfport High senior, Emily Tipton, was one of 102,000 students to apply for the Coca Cola scholarship and Friday, she was named one of 2,200 semi-finalists. Tipton is in the process of applying to colleges. Right now, her top choice is Vanderbilt. She wants to study international studies, more specifically, French human relations. Tipton hopes to one day work in a delegation abroad.

Tipton says, “I applied to so many different schools and scholarships and I’ve been trying really hard throughout this process, and so every time I get a little bit of success like this semi-final, it’s really exciting and it makes me more confident in my choices, like trying to pursue higher education and taking risks and everything.”

Tipton tells News 25 she’s a little nervous because she’s supposed to hear back from Vanderbilt very soon.
