Two Submit Statements of Intent for Moss Point Mayor
The mayor of Moss Point hasn’t signed up to re-run in the upcoming election, so who has?
It’s still a way away from when polls open this summer, but two candidates are already officially in the running and hoping to be the new mayor of Moss Point.
Moss Point residents Mario King and Billy Knight Sr. have submitted statements of intent, according to an open records request News 25 obtained from City Hall.
Knight has already started to campaign. He’s lived in Moss Point for over 50 years. If he gets elected, Knight says he plans to better Moss Point’s public image. “There’s a lot of potential for economic development that I think is not being tapped into as well as it could. I’ve been a business man as well so I understand the business side of this. I understand managing money and budgets. With those kinds of experiences, I think we can get the city back on track to where it ought to be.”
News 25 reached out to Mayor Billy Broomfield to see if he plans on re-running, but he hasn’t returned the call yet. The primary isn’t until May. The deadline to qualify for mayor is March 3rd.
