Gulfport Police Department to hold firearm safety classes

New gun owners have a shot at having all their questions answered by professionals at a reasonable price.

Gulfport Police Sgt. Jason Ducre says a gun safety course will be focused on safety and shooting fundamentals.

He tells News 25 that students will also learn how to clean a gun because a clean gun is a safe gun.

Just recently, Gulfport police had their hands full with a mass shooting at a New Year’s Eve party.

Ducre says the incident underscores the importance of knowledge and experience when handling firearms.  “With this class we’re able to answer those questions and teach them about gun laws and the legalities of carrying a gun. So, you will bring your own firearm, your own ammo, and we’ll go over the fundamentals and the safety behind owning a firearm.”

The course is just $25 which can be paid on the Gulfport PD website under the community relations tab.
