Heat for the Holidays winner revealed

Every year the Heat for the Holidays giveaway sponsored by WXXV, Geiger Heating and Air, and Rheem gives a completely new heating and air system to one lucky family on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Wednesday morning, News 25 knocked on Susan Griswold’s door in Gulfport to let her know she was getting a brand-new heating and air system.

She bought her current system after Katrina and it was time for a new one. “It’s something that I didn’t want to have to come up with the money and replace this summer, but knew I was going to have to. I was going to have to do that.”

Brian Younger with Geiger Heating and Air said, “She made the comment that it wasn’t working so that’s what it’s about. Someone that doesn’t have it and needs, that’s what makes me smile. I love it.”

Depending on the situation, the new heating and air system could be worth up to $15,000 and save her up to 30 percent on her electric bill. Rheem representative Jason Hawkins said, “To know they’re going to save power by a 16-year-old unit that’s probably been ramping up on their power bill is great. It’s a lot of savings and she’ll get a ten-year warranty and parts.”

For seven years now, families across the Coast have been surprised as winners for Heat for the Holidays. “I can’t believe this is year seven already. This is amazing and I’m going to do it until I’m done. I don’t plan on retiring anytime soon because I plan on doing Heat for the Holidays from now on.”

The giveaway is now a tradition for Geiger Heating and Air. “Their reaction and seeing how bad it was at the first house, she was heating her house with a camp stove. Didn’t have air, didn’t have heat and in South Mississippi, it gets hot.”
