Hospice of Light honors former patients during annual Tree Planting Ceremony

Friends and family of former Singing River Hospice of Light patients held a remembrance ceremony today.

A live oak was planted near the walking trail at the Singing River Healthplex in Pascagoula.

November is recognized as National Hospice Month and as a tradition, Hospice of Light planted a tree in remembrance of the patients who passed away during the last year.

One administrator says planting a live oak tree is a way to provide a living remembrance to honor loved ones for years to come. Hospice of Light Nurse Cynthia Hamm said, “The significance is that when we go home every day, we carry these kodak moments of our patients and their caregivers. And I can still tell you about people that i got to love on back in 1994. They make a difference in our lives, so we need to stop and we need to say they made a difference, let’s remember them. And so, as we plant a tree and that tree grows with these people, their names into the root systems of these live oaks saplings, we’re able to walk by and say yes, they made a difference in our lives and we are good to remember them.”
