Gulf Coast Veterans Healthcare System offering COVID-19 boosters
Gulf Coast Veterans Healthcare System is now offering Moderna and J&J COVID-19 boosters under emergency use authorization.
The clinics are offering these boosters to the veterans as well as their spouses and caregivers.
Individuals who received a Pfizer or Moderna vaccine must wait six months after their initial series and be either 65 years and older or 18 and older living in long-term care settings, have underlying medical conditions, or work or live in high-risk settings.
Booster shots for individuals who received a J&J vaccine are recommended to be 18 and older and were vaccinated at least two months ago. Biloxi VA Medical Center Primary Care Assistant Nurse Manager Tiffany Mentor said, “So, we’ve been awaiting this arrival to be giving to our veterans here to help with COVID-19. This booster that we have, we want to make sure we have the veterans, spouses, the caregivers, and make sure we do our effort in decrease the COVID-19 transmission.”
Veterans and other eligible beneficiaries can call the Gulf Coast Veterans Healthcare System at 1-800-296-8872 to schedule appointments for booster shots.
