Rep. Jeramey Anderson Addresses Key Issues on the Coast

Friday, State Representative Jeramey Anderson returned to the Coast after the first week of the 2015 legislative session to discuss some of the key issues facing his district.

Many in attendance wanted to know what could be done in the wake of the Singing River Health System pension controversy, but aside from changing legislation on open meeting requirements for the hospital system, Anderson also discussed reform in education, public safety, and municipal and county governments. Two bills he is authoring focus on the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

Anderson says, "One of them would allow the Mississippi Highway Patrol to do overload escorts, extra duty, to offset some of that funding that they’re not getting because of their base salary. The second is for them to be able to work outside jobs, part-time jobs that require them to carry arms."

This is Anderson’s second legislative session since getting elected and he tells News 25 he looks forward to learning from his senior Coast representatives again this year.
