American Red Cross offering incentives to donors during blood shortage
Despite ongoing appeals to donors and the public, the American Red Cross emergency blood and platelet shortage continues.
Red Cross is asking donors of all blood types, especially type O, and platelet donors to donate.
To encourage more donors, Red Cross is offering $5 Zaxby’s gift cards as well as $5 gift cards to one of many locations available on the Red Cross website.
Starting November 1st through the 12th, those who donate will automatically be entered to win a trip for two to Hawaii.
All who donate from November 1st through the 23rd will receive a $10 Amazon gift card by email. American Red Cross Mississippi Senior Account Manager Denise Smith said, “When we say there is a blood shortage that means that it’s gotten to a point that there are patients who may not get the treatments or the surgeries they need. That’s currently where we are. Hospitals generally run on about a three-day supply in their blood banks, and they’ve been having to run on about half-day supply.”
