Southern Miss paying attention to detail
The Southern Miss football team is exactly halfway through the regular season with exactly one win to show for it, but that 1-5 record doesn’t tell the whole story.
Aside from USM’s blowout loss to Alabama, the Golden Eagles aren’t that impossibly far away from being 5-1.
All four of their other losses have been one-score games at half-time, including Saturday’s homecoming defeat at the hands of UTEP.
That means the Black and Gold have been doing a lot more right than wrong, but even two or three wrongs per game don’t make a right. Head Coach Will Hall said, “I think they see the film. We’re brutally honest in this program. It’s not like we’re telling lies. We put the film on and show it. I mean there’s three plays in that game, and if one guy just does what he’s supposed to do, the whole game is drastically different. We set our bowling pins up and get them all just perfect, and right about the time we’re about to roll the ball to knock them down, we slip the ball out of our hand and throw it backwards. We don’t need more three run homers, right? We need more singles. We need more base hits. We need more guys not swinging at bad pitches. We just need everybody doing their job.”
Southern Miss caps off its two-game homestand against UAB at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
