Lady Bulldogs earn highest-ever AP poll ranking
Last year, the Mississippi State women’s basketball team was one win away from being crowned national champions and yet the Lady Bulldogs are still rewriting history this year.
Today, MSU earned its highest-ever ranking in the AP top 25 poll, coming in at number 2 behind undefeated UConn.
The Lady Bulldogs join the Lady Huskies as the nation’s only other unbeaten team at 20-0, matching their best start to a season in program history. They also own the SEC’s best conference record at 6-0 and claim a spot in the poll for the 61st week in a row.
Mississippi State returns to the Hump on Thursday to take on Florida at 7:30 p.m.
Elsewhere on the hardwood, here’s a couple of notes from Southern Miss. After a win over North Texas this weekend, USM is now 9-0 at home and back over .500.
On the other side, the Lady Eagles had Shonte Hailes receive her second Conference USA Player of the Week earlier today.
In volleyball, the university has announced the hire of its 11th head coach Stephanie Radecki who is set to lead the beach volleyball program as well come spring 2019.
Up at Perk tonight, Jones County Junior College was in the house and sweeping Mississippi Gulf Coast in a hoops double header. The Bobcats win 67-59. On the ladies side, it was much more lopsided, Lady Bobcats winning 86-54.
