Two-year-old from Sumrall, MS dies from flu complications
As flu season continues to rage across South Mississippi, Mississippi Department of Health officials have confirmed the first death of a child this flu season.
So far, there have been 30 pediatric flu deaths reported in the United States this flu season. Today, it was confirmed that a two-year-old girl from Sumrall died yesterday as a result of complications of the flu strain B.
Flu shots are recommended for all those six months and older. The type of flu virus that is primarily causing illness in Mississippi and nationwide is the H3N2 flu strain which especially affects individuals over 65 years of age and young children, increasing their risk of complications and hospitalization.
