Man dead after Sunday night shooting in Gulfport
Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove has identified 33-year-old Bernard Kennedy as the victim of the fatal shooting that occurred last night in Gulfport.
Residents living in the area near the intersection of Fern Avenue and Southward Drive tell News 25 they heard three gunshots around 9 p.m. Police responded to the scene and found Kennedy suffering from gunshot wounds that later claimed his life.
Kennedy is originally from Georgia, but moved to Gulfport about ten years ago. He leaves one six-year-old daughter behind.
Tonight, his closest friends gathered at Skeeter’s Billiards in Gulfport to collect money for his funeral. News 25 spoke to Kennedy’s best friend who tells us a little about who he was. Mytory Locks said, “My brother is one of the greatest men I know. He was loved by a lot of people. He influenced a lot of people. He changed a lot of lives while he was here no matter what he did in his past. I just don’t want my brother’s name to be slandered or belittle because of the things people think he did because really I can give two uhh about what anybody gotta say about my brother. He was a great man to me and my family and that’s all that matters.”
News 25 also spoke to Kennedy’s sister in Georgia who told us that he was working towards opening his own tattoo shop. A GoFundme page has been set up to help raise funds for Kennedy’s burial and for a trust for his daughter. You can find that here.
