Local Muslim Reacts To Trump Presidency
Since Donald Trump’s surprising success on Election Day, protests have taken place across America many breaking out into violence. Some feel Trump’s stances on many issues are evidence of racism and hatred towards minorities.
One local man, a practicing Muslim, who was born and raised right here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast says this isn’t the case. Despite our states heavy population of Trump supporters, Rahim Khan says he’s never felt discriminated against for his religious beliefs, and he tells News 25 he stands by America’s choice to elect Trump. Khan adds that he believes these protests won’t help because now is the time to unite as a nation. “He’s just trying to get rid of terrorism. It isn’t necessarily that he hates Muslims, he just wants to get rid of terrorism. We, as Muslims, need to get behind Trump, assimilate into this culture. He’s our president and we have to respect that. We need to show everybody that we are loving peaceful Muslims. Hillary or Trump, whoever wins is our president at the end of the day, we have to respect that.”
Trump is set to officially be sworn into office on January 20th, as the 45th president of the United States.
