Veterans Day at Jeff Davis Elementary
Jeff Davis Elementary pulled out all the stops this afternoon, welcoming guests from the nearby Keesler Air Force Base to their school for their Veterans Day program.
The entire student body lined up, waving flags and singing, all part of an all American display of their appreciation for our military. Keynote speaker Commander Michele Edmondson and her daughter, a first grader at Jeff Davis, demonstrated the proper way to salute for the students.
When Edmondson asked how many students have a mom or dad in the military nearly everyone raised their hands. “I think it warmed everyone’s heart to see all these children, whether they’re children of military members or not, they all sit in the classrooms, they all play sports, with children that are growing up in the military and I think that helps us spread that sense of service and commitment and helps us grow the next generation of people that will come after us and serve this great nation,” said Edmondson.
Jeff Davis Elementary has the highest percentage of students from military families in the state.
