Cold Weather Shelters Open Tues. & Wed. Nights

If you were outside at all Tuesday, you probably noticed it’s gotten a lot colder.

Temperatures got down into the mid-30s Tuesday night, and that’s why the Salvation Army opened up shelters along the Coast. The shelter in Gulfport and the one in Pascagoula opened Tuesday around 4 p.m. to let people in. Breakfast will be served to the Pascagoula shelter residents in the morning, while the Gulfport shelter residents will be taken to Feed My Sheep for breakfast. The Salvation Army opens these shelters any time the temperatures get close to or below freezing.

Laura Bianco, Public Relations Director for the Salvation Army, says, "This year, we have been open nearly 40 days because of cold weather and that is something that surprised us because it has been a very cold year for 2014, and this year, everyone will spend New Year’s with us, so it will be a nice time to ring in the New Year with everybody."

Both shelters will be open Wednesday night as well.
