Mississippi Power Permit Granted For Kemper Plant
State officials will grant Mississippi Power a permit to allow the company based at the Kemper County Plant to discharge water into a creek during high rainfall.
The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality’s permit board votes unanimously to re-issue the permit.
This vote comes after a Meridian man challenged it.
Mississippi Power is only supposed to let water flow from a holding pond into a creek after three days of heavy rainfall.
Environmental officials report the pond water isn’t harmful and say the creek will be so high that water quality won’t be harmed.
