Columbus Day Celebration
Over a hundred people gathered in Bay St. Louis this evening for a special Columbus Day celebration.
The Gulf Coast Italian American Cultural Society hosted its third annual Columbus Day Dinner at the Silver Slipper Casino. The dinner serves as a time for people to come together and celebrate the holiday and major strides over the years.
President of the National Italian American Foundation John Viola says it is important to remember that Columbus Day is about more than just Columbus. “It’s about 25 million Americans of Italian descent and all of their ancestors and all of the sacrifices and risks that they took to come here and allow us a better life and the hope is that we take that better life and pass it on to our children and grandchildren along with our really incredible culture.”
In addition to delicious Italian cuisine, the celebration included a silent auction that goes toward the foundation’s scholarship program.
