Cineflix Film Festival
This week D’Iberville is stop number two of eight as the Cineflix Film Festival travels across America, showcasing independent films on the silver screen.
News 25’s Hank Davis tells us more.
For four days, the Grand Theatre is hosting the Cineflix Film Festival as part of an eight week tour, organized by John Schneider of television fame. This is a chance for independent filmmakers to put their work out there for audiences that might normally be unreachable. “I made movies on my little super 8 camera in the 60s and then when we did ‘Dukes of Hazzard,’ I’m the only one to write one of the episodes. I wrote and directed the last episode of ‘Dukes of Hazzard.’ That’s really what I thought I was going to be doing,” said Schneider.
Now the guy that used to jump the General Lee is jumping over barriers in the film industry. “That means of expression has always been a part of me. With Cineflix, we’re able to not only get our films shown on the big screen, but more importantly we’re able to get other people’s films on the big screen,” said Schneider.
Films like “Among the Discarded,” the documented experience of a man that lived homeless on Skid Row for 30 days with nothing but a GoPro camera. Indie Filmmaker Trent Dionsoto said, “I felt when I was creating this film that I would have a lot of stories of others, that I would tell the stories of others, but as I was with my editor editing this, he looked at me and said this is a story about you. It’s an experience that I wanted to share, but it’s an experience that changed my life forever by being in those circumstances. I can’t even put into words. I mean, I really can’t even put into words what this means to me.”
This is one of the 22 films audiences have a chance to catch before October 13th when the film fest moves on to its next stop. “They don’t only put their money where their creativity is, they put their lives on the line many times to do it. You will find that that’s truly where art lives,” said Schneider.
