More and More Filmmakers Come to the Gulf Coast

Filmmakers are moving out of Hollywood, and many of them moving towards the Gulf Coast.

In the past few years, the Coast has seen more and more films being shot locally, along with events like the Sun and Sand Film Festival. Legislators believe the film industry has really boosted the Coast’s tourism and wants to see that continue. Not only does filmmaking bring awareness to what the Gulf Coast has to offer, but it also boosts the local economy as well.

Representative Patricia Willis (R), District 95, says, “Well, I think it’s very important because it’s bringing a lot of money in. I did say that 40 million spent is what the film industry brought into this economy through buying equipment, through restaurants, through hotels. Those people are spending that much money here in our state.”

Local legislators hope to work with filmmakers to ensure they continue to produce more films on the Coast.
