Lizana Elementary students provide Thanksgiving meals

With the holidays right around the corner, a local elementary school wants to make sure everyone has a Thanksgiving meal.
Students at Lizana Elementary School are having their seventh annual food drive. Each grade is competing to see who can bring in the most items and in the end will donate the food to St. Ann Catholic Church where Thanksgiving baskets are put together from the food.
The drive started today and goes through Friday. Lizana Elementary Teacher Kelley Williams said, “This church that we give the items to creates baskets, Thanksgiving baskets, and they go back into the community where our families are from that we teach here at Lizana. So, they’re giving back to the community and it’s a way to instill giving.”
Last year’s food drive brought in over seventeen hundred items and this year they hope to break that record with over two thousand items.
