Coast Native Ole Miss Player Reflects on His Time w/the Team
Golson may no longer be a Pascagoula Panther, but he still wears red and blue on the field each week with the Ole Miss Rebels. Even though he doesn’t make it back to the Coast as much as he’d like, he still feels the support from back home. Golson says, "Man, it’s just been awesome. I never really realized how big the Ole Miss fan base was down there until I actually got here. I love the Coast. I love Ole Miss. I wish I didn’t have to leave."
The senior cornerback leads the Rebels defense, which ranks first in the nation in points allowed. Golson tops the SEC with nine interceptions this season and his career 15 interceptions is currently the most in the nation. The senior from the Gulf Coast ended his final game in Oxford in the perfect way, with an Egg Bowl victory over their biggest rivals, the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
In the Rebels’ win over State, Golson had six tackles and broke up one pass with a hard hit on Bulldogs Receiver, Fred Brown. Golson also says, "When it comes down to this game, all the stats and rankings, they go out the window. I think the best part about the win is they don’t get a chance to get to the playoffs too."
Golson has seen Ole Miss go from 2-10 back in 2011 to now 9-3 and ready for the Rebels’ third straight bowl game appearance. Golson closes, "It’s always good to get Mississippi on national attention. Usually when you get national attention, it’s just okay. So to get national attention with football, you know it’s just been a great year for Mississippi.”
Sunday, Golson will find out what bowl he’ll end his Ole Miss career with.
