Oxford Economic Shows Impact of Gaming on MS Economy

Thursday, Oxford Economic released a new study that pinpoints just how much the gaming industry contributes to Mississippi’s economy. The study explains that in Mississippi, gaming has contributed $4 billion to the economy and supports 37,000 direct and indirect jobs.

The Mississippi gaming industry also generates $944 million in tax revenue to local, state, and federal governments. The Beau Rivage, a casino leader on the Coast, says while they are careful to avoid oversaturation, M.G.M. hopes to grow gaming in Mississippi and in turn, grow the state’s economy.

Anthony Del Vescovo, Vice President of Operations for M.G.M. Resorts International, says, “Being supported by our political leaders, as we have been over the years, I think having a strong regulatory environment, those are the things that are essential to build a good foundation for the gaming industry. That will bring in the right investment dollars, the right companies, and I think gaming will continue to be what it is in Mississippi.”

Throughout the nation, gaming contributes $240 billion to the U.S. economy, proving that gaming is still a growing and viable industry for both local and national economies.
