Moss Point Residents Petition for City Manager

Residents in Moss Point follow the City of Ocean Springs and start a petition to move toward a city manager form of government.
The call for change comes after many residents were upset with the recent investigation and termination of former Police Chief Art McClung.
Eager for change in leadership, residents wasted no time putting a petition together to change the city’s form of government. At least 1,200 signatures from registered voters are necessary to help make the change toward a city manager format.
Some residents are in favor of the change, saying that drastic times call for drastic measures. Other feel a change is unnecessary.
Moss Point resident Darrius Pierce said, “If it would make the job easier, if it would make either his job easier or if it would make things run a lot smoother than I wouldn’t be opposed to that.”
Moss Point resident Anthony McNeil said, “The mayor won’t be needed then. If we’re going to have a city manager, what good is it gonna be to have a mayor.”
Moss Point residents plan to strategize ways to gain as many signatures as possible during a meeting tomorrow evening.
Organizers encourage anyone interested in finding out more about the movement or interested in signing the petition to meet at the Rotary Club on Bellview Street at 6 p.m.
